Dr. Alicia McCubbins, ND
Hi! I am Dr. Alicia McCubbins and Functional Fertility Support is my superpower! Though I joyfully help patients of all ages and conditions, I’m an expert in natural fertility solutions, and I am passionate about helping couples to conceive, even when the odds are stacked against them.
Fertility support is not just about treating eggs and sperm. We must focus on optimizing health for the entire human being if we hope to create new life. The journey can be challenging, emotional, alienating, even hopeless at times. I’ve been in those shoes and know how important it is to have an expert who cares and understands deeply. I love supporting fertility patients as they find balance in their bodies and strive to conceive the ultimate gift:a healthy baby.
As a mother of a toddler, I feel like I have already lived a lifetime of pain leading up to pregnancy. I spent the majority of my life trying NOT to get pregnant while I was focusing on my education and career. My husband and I then tried to conceive for 3 years when we decided we were “ready,” but our bodies were not yet prepared. I became desperate, motivated, and willing to do anything and everything to get pregnant.
Being a naturopathic doctor (ND), I have been trained as a primary care physician, blending conventional and natural approaches to all conditions. I also developed a successful fertility specialty in my private practice. My education and experience had empowered me with the knowledge I needed to troubleshoot my own fertility journey from a medical perspective. That said, the education I received from those 3 years of struggle is greater than anything I’ve learned in medical school or private practice.
During that time, I truly began to relate to the patients I was seeing. Women in their 20s, 30s and 40s kept coming to me for help because they weren’t getting the support they needed from their conventional physicians. Many of them were told they were “infertile”… What a shame! They weren’t actually infertile, but in fact, 90% of them successfully conceived with naturopathic care within 3-12 months of working with me.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the definition of infertility is “a disease of the reproductive system defined by the failure to achieve a clinical pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse,” or after 6 months if over 35 years old.
Here’s the catch: my husband and I were not “infertile.” We had hormonal imbalances due to stress, some nutrient deficiencies, and we both needed some gentle preconception detoxification. With time, patience, and focus on self-care, we were able to create a healthy and happy child. I attribute our success to not only addressing the root cause of our issues, but also because we partnered with a clinician who listened and supported us comprehensively. I pledge to be that clinician for you.
Whether you are currently trying to conceive, thinking about having children some day, or are feeling resigned from the struggle of navigating the current healthcare model, I am here to support your physical, mental and emotional health. Together, we can achieve balance and enhance the body’s inherent fertile wisdom.
“ I met Dr. Alicia when I was trying to get pregnant with my first child, and had been trying for a year with no luck. I was diagnosed with PCOS and was told by my obgyn I wouldn’t be able to conceive without prescription medication. Luckily I found Dr. Alicia who is so knowledgeable about all aspects of what my body needed to get pregnant. She was so caring and helped guide me with nutrition, natural supplements, and exercise. Within 4 months I was pregnant with my beautiful healthy daughter, who’s now 5! ”
“ When seeking treatment for infertility, having a compassionate medical partner is key. The amount of shame and pain women experience when struggling to conceive is often overlooked by medical professionals, as they push one fertility treatment after the next, only contributing to the pain when you can’t even make those work. After 10 years of battling infertility and irregular periods, I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Alicia McCubbins. I knew right away I had met a soul sister, friend, and someone who could help me. While speaking to her about just getting my cycles regular (the dream of having a child had long since passed) to ward off the increased risk of ovarian cancer, she mentioned she bet she could get me pregnant. After I was done laughing, I told her I would simply be happy having a period. This was the beginning of March 2013. In April, I started the regimen prescribed by Dr. McCubbins, and by the end of July I heard the words I had longed to hear for years, “you are pregnant!” My pregnancy was not an easy one, and was filled with many scares, but Dr. McCubbins supported me the whole way, both medically and emotionally. I honestly feel without this holistic support, fear would have taken over, and my story may not have ended well. Instead, today I prepare to celebrate the 5th birthday of my miracle boy on April 9th. I cannot recommend the services of Dr. McCubbins enough. Her knowledge, compassion, and friendship took the shame out of infertility, and turned it into a hoop we could jump through together. Five years later, we still refer to our joy, Uriah, as the boy that love and Alicia made! ”
“ I have been a patient of Dr. McCubbins for a few years. I have met her in person on several occasions for appointments in her office and recently had the opportunity of a telemedicine appointment. I was unsure what to expect about an appointment using the computer; and I would say that that the appointment felt just as effective as coming into her office. I felt like she was thorough and the quality of service was exceptional as always. Dr. McCubbins was extremely helpful in supporting me through my journey of having a baby. I had struggled to keep a pregnancy for several years before I started seeing her. She was recommended to me under the title of “The Baby Whisperer” and after we started working together I was able to give birth to a healthy baby boy. I appreciate that she comes with so much knowledge but also takes her time to think about what would be the best course of treatment for me. I would highly recommend Dr. McCubbins for her expertise in person or through telemedicine. ”
