Your health challenges are real. Maybe you have already been to several doctors and maybe you’ve been told “you’re fine”. Maybe you have even started to feel ashamed or embarrassed because of your complaints.
Like it’s “all in your head.”
Yet you continue to struggle with fatigue, lack of motivation, brain fog, insomnia, migraines, weight gain, digestive issues, and the list goes on… Aging isn’t feeling the way you’d hoped.
Does it have to be this way?
You’re tired of being tired
I’ve been there. It took years for me to be diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disorder. I remember well the exhaustion leading up to it.
So often my patients will describe their chronic fatigue, and I am astounded. I ask them, “How do you do it? How do you get up every day, take care of your family, go to work, and keep on? How do you do it with this level of fatigue, with these nutritional deficiencies, with this battle?”
They are heroes to be respected. They’re not nuisances to be dismissed by the medical profession, just because their symptoms can’t be resolved with a quick visit and a pill.
There are many people struggling with health issues that they can’t even finish describing in a ten-minute doctor’s visit. There’s no time for the doctor to ask the questions needed to uncover the mystery.
Your journey is my journey
Your unsolved health concerns become my personal challenges. It’s similar to solving a mystery, and I’m not satisfied until we have answers.
I’ve been through a lot myself. I know what it feels like to have random complaints and no diagnosis. I understand when a patient complains of fatigue, migraines, weight gain, etc. I’m a doctor who really gets it.
We need to get to the root cause of your symptoms. Maybe it’s a hormonal imbalance. Maybe it’s stress. Or maybe you have an undiagnosed food sensitivity. There are so many possibilities.
Whatever the cause, it becomes my personal journey to get you well. I become quite determined to solve the mystery, and I keep digging until a clear picture starts to emerge.
I got here through conventional medicine first
In my youth, growing up in India, I experienced several life-threatening infectious diseases: malaria, typhoid, and tuberculosis. Strong western drugs saved my life, but they left their mark on me. My journey back to health had to go beyond conventional medicine.
I didn’t come to this realization all at once. I didn’t stop to reflect. Instead, I jumped right into the intense training of medical school, residency, and over 90-hour workweeks.
My journey to functional medicine began many years after graduating from medical school.
It started with a quest in my mind. I simply knew there had to be a better explanation for how I was feeling. Maybe you can relate
I was having so many problems. Fatigue. Iron deficiencies. Chronic gut issues. I was gaining weight and struggling with sleep. There were limitations of what I could eat, and then an autoimmune condition set it
All those medications in my youth and young adulthood, which had saved my life, had also triggered new problems in my health. I began asking questions and reading the scientific evidence.
I realized I had to get beyond treating symptom after symptom. I needed to find out what the underlying causes were. I discovered I was highly reactive to wheat and dairy, and I had several nutritional deficiencies. My lifestyle had to change to bring about real healing. But, now, I’m enjoying living life to the fullest.
This is functional medicine.
