What is functional medicine?

x

Tired of being dismissed by your physician? Told your symptoms have no explanation? Being prescribed pharmaceuticals for every symptom? You know this isn’t helpful and so do we. Enter functional medicine. Functional medicine is an approach to health care that focuses on solving your health problems by identifying the root cause, rather than covering your symptoms with prescriptions. It requires a detailed understanding of your health history, along with personalized, in-depth testing. Treatment approaches address lifestyle factors and use natural approaches first, then medications if needed.

Why hasn’t my doctor offered this kind of care for me?

If you’ve ever tried to discuss your fatigue, or your mood changes, your gut issues, or your difficulty sleeping with your doctor and walked out with a stack of prescriptions you are not alone. There is simply not enough time in a traditional medical visit to be helpful for many kinds of health problems, especially those that require digging a little deeper. Many doctors simply aren’t trained to provide this level of care. We find this approach as frustrating as you do–so we set out to fix it. At Vytal Health, our physicians have the training, compassion, and curiosity to understand your symptoms in depth, take the time to listen, and get you on the path to feeling healthy again.

What kinds of medications do your physicians prescribe?
+
x

If you’re looking for help with certain prescription medications that your current traditional physician has never heard of (or has dismissed), you’ve come to the right place. Many of our physicians have obtained extra training in the appropriate prescribing of hormone replacement treatments, including bioidentical hormones. Vytal Health physicians also approach thyroid prescribing in a personalized fashion, and include medications like Armour Thyroid,  NP-Thyroid, and Nature-Throid, as well as compounded thyroid medications in their practices. Other compounded medications like Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) and allergen-free medications are commonly prescribed by Vytal Health physicians.

Is Vytal Health covered by insurance?
+
x

No. Happily, no. We believe it is important to work for our patients, not for their insurance companies. We forgo insurance payments in order to save you from the arbitrary, intrusive decisions that inevitably follow with third-party payors. Many of our patients choose to pay for their care using HSA/FSA dollars.

How can I reach my physician?
+
x

Through the patient portal, you can directly and securely message your physician (or any member of the Vytal Health team). However, if the question or request is deemed too complicated to be addressed via messaging, your physician may prefer that you schedule an appointment. Our clinicians typically respond to messages within 24-48 business hours, and your support team responds even quicker.

Please note that since we are not a primary care practice, we do not have doctors on call or after hours coverage. Please contact your primary care physician for advice after hours.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
+
x

We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. You can cancel or reschedule your appointment right from your appointment confirmation email. You can also email us at hello@VytalHealth.com or call us at (855) 998-4900. If prior notification is not given, you will be charged $100 fee (or the full price of your appointment if less than $100) for the missed appointment.

Can my Vytal Health physician be my primary care provider?
+
x

Because Vytal Health is dedicated to being the most convenient way to receive functional medicine care, we do not have the ability to be a full-scope practice with a clinic. We recommend all of our patients have their own personal primary care provider.

Can I see my Vytal Health clinician in person?
+
x

At Vytal Health, we respect your time. There is no need for you to drive long distances, interact with multiple clinic staff, and sit in a crowded waiting room. The most important skill that functional medicine physicians have to uncover the underlying root causes of your health problem is their ability to listen, and this can be conveniently completed via video visits. In order to keep our price for care as low as possible, we forgo those crowded waiting rooms and multiple staff. If your physician believes you need to be seen in person for an exam, they will help you arrange for this form of care.

What is the cost of the lab testing?
+
x

Because lab testing needs vary so much from patient to patient, we do not include the cost of labs in the visits so that you are not paying for more than you need. Our patients typically spend $100-350 on in-home lab testing, however, some lab testing can be done at your local lab, using your own insurance.

What kinds of supplements to do you carry at Vytal Health?
+
x

When it comes to quality, all supplements are not created equal. We focus on pharmaceutical-grade supplements whose manufacturing processes have been certified by NSF International. Brands like Orthomolecular, Pure Encapsulations, Thorne, and Metagenics, among others, have passed the high standards of our pharmacists and are the most commonly recommended by Vytal Health clinicians.
